Satellite photo of ice freeze-up in Temagami, 2007

Posted Wednesday, January 10, 2007                                                                         Photo: NASA/NOAA

Low temps, ice return – again

Temperatures slipped just below freezing on January 7, chasing out the warm spell ushered in on New Year's Day. (See Gooderham's photos on previous page.) Yesterday's daytime high hit minus 2.4 C, and today's high was minus 14 C. This brought back ice.

The satellite photo indicates ice cover has returned to most lakes. Remember, ice without snow cover that is less than four inches thick may appear as open water, so Lake Temagami may be closed, just barely.

The waffles on the right side are clouds.
