Freeze-up, but ice travel unsafe

Temagami iced over on December 18. Wanapitei and Timiskaming lakes are open.

This the first time in nine days that the clouds have parted for a satellite peek.

Warm temperatures (minus 4 C today) and snow have kept the ice to two inches or less, so travel, except by airboat, has not started on Lake Temagami.

"Another really bad freeze-up," Temagami First Nation airboat driver Bob Farr said. "We just didn't get those really cold days in a row."
