FEBRUARY 8 Long-term timber-management direction released for comment MNR has released the Long Term Management Direction (LTMD) documents as it prepares the 2009-2019 timber-management plan of the Temagami district. The LTMD revises 100-year goals that will be used for the upcoming creation of a ten-year plan for 2009 to 2019. The ten-year plan will contain two five-year plans — one soccer game, with a first half and a second half. Confusing, yes. There is a web of management plans, and the ministry only permits changes through structured public input — and often only the illusion of public input — at their birth. This is the beginning of the first public comment period for the LTMD — why not another acronym to alienate? The public has until February 16 to comment, as described in the Environmental Registry (link below). MNR intends to complete the plan by the end of March, 2009.
