Break-up Watch 2017 - ice-out: May 1 We missed ice bottled up in the channel at Horsehoe Island in the North Arm. Owen Bateman reports that it went out on May 1. So we are revising our ice-out call from April 29 to May 1. Break-up Watch 2017 - April 29 Virtually all the ice left Lake Temagami yesterday in fierce wind. This lake is the benchmark for our ice-out call and only today, after hearing from our observers, can we say with extreme confidence that it is clear throughout the lake. The last ice was seen at mid-day disappearing at Seal Rock. BACKGROUND: 30 years of break-up dates Break-up Watch 2017 - April 27 As Penny St. Germain emailed this morning, the ice has changed today. It is a difficult image to read, but we can see most Temagami lakes have at least some ice. The grey colour reveals most of Lake Temagami (shown by the arrow) has ice. Lake Timiskaming may be clear. |
