Freeze-up Watch 2021 - Freeze-over Jan 1!

None of our observers saw open water after January 1, so we are calling that as freeze-up (this was previously called for December 31). We call for the entire Temagami region with Lake Temagami as our benchmark. (Lakes Timiskaming and Wanapitei always go later.)

Though late, but not the latest freeze-up. Have a look back to 2002.

The photo looks west from Island 988, south of Alexander Island, over an area that is normally one of the last to close.
