Winter Adventures with Eskakwa

We’ve selected two old-growth pine environments for our winter expedition destinations:  the Caldwell Forest, in central Ontario near Rosseau; and, of course – Temagami!  Both areas represent an ancient forest ecology and unparalleled scenic values.  These trips are specially designed for those with a sense of adventure and for those wishing to sharpen winter camping skills.  This is also a great opportunity to learn about the old-growth forests in Ontario and about the struggle to protect them.  Hap Wilson, your guide, will be your host and instructor…expeditions are professionally outfitted and transportation is provided from point of rendezvous.

Temagami    Lady Evelyn Park Retreat at Eskakwa Lodge

January 5 to 12      Cost:  $2,175.00 per person     8-days

We operate the only outpost lodge within the Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Wilderness Park in Temagami and the location is breathtaking!  Perched above Bridal Veil Falls on the Lady Evelyn River, the base camp provides a spectacular view of the river and is centrally located within traveling distance of six other waterfalls.  Flight in and out of Sudbury to our lodge is provided.  We’ll spend a week exploring the park interior by ski and snowshoe, photograph wildlife, stargaze and enjoy the silent ambience of a truly isolated wonderland.  Rustic, wood-heated cabin accommodation is provided; meals are prepared country-style on a wood-fired range.  Participants must be prepared for delays in transportation due to weather conditions.

Cardwell Forest Conservation Reserve in north Muskoka

January 26-28, February 2-4 & 16-18  Cost:  $295.00 per person  3-days

There are few old-growth pine forests left in Ontario and the Cardwell Stand is one of Muskoka’s best representative sites.  The forest is relatively isolated and we’ll be camping out in tents and quin-zhees (snow shelters).  Our base camp will provide a communal, wood-heated shelter, blending high-tech with traditional winter camping equipment.  These expeditions focus on winter travel and camping skills, choice of equipment, reading weather and ice conditions and learning about Ontario’s beautiful primal forests.  Your guide/instructor will be Hap Wilson, author of Mapping Muskoka Wilds – an eco-adventure guide.
