Boat traffic dwindling

There were only two boats when I got to the Mine Landing, including mine.

Winds were hard from the west and warming temperatures got to minus 5 C.

Yes, the Bear Island barge was running, slow and noisy. Imagine travelling in a tin can pushing through a big bowl of two-by-two-inch ice cubes.
