Misabi Range
The Misabi family territory covers a good portion of this area. Misabi means giant in Ojibway. This remote area has spectacular terrain, old-growth red and white pine and virgin forest. Muskego Wildlands This is the largest unprotected roadless area in the Temagami district. Muskego comes from the Ojibway word for muskeg. The northeast portion contains one of Ontario's largest concentrations of old-growth red and white pine. Spirit Forest This area holds two Nishnabai sacred sites: Spirit Rock and Kokomis-Shomis Rocks. It is home to the Wakimika Triangle, the largest old-growth red and white pine forest in the world. It also contains old-growth jack pine, white cedar, black ash and black spruce. The oldest known tree is a 380-year-old white pine. |
