Freeze-up Watch: freeze-up Dec 19

A great satellite image for yesterday showing water on Timiskaming, Nipissing and Wanapitei. But little visible on our benchmark lake, Temagami. Miller's photos from yesterday do, however, show small open areas.

Lake-side observers estimate there are no open areas on Temagami today. So we are calling freeze-up for December 19, a tie with last year.

Break-up Watch: ice-out May 18

Observers Harold Keevil and Dave Wilfong report the ice is gone today on the North Arm. With no reports for the top of the South Arm and Cattle Island west side, we are tentatively calling today ice-out.

This may change, so keep watching these pages. But right now it ties with last year.

Break-up Watch: Lake Temagami well on its way

Lake Temagami break-up is well on its way. Ice is visible in the satellite photo in the South and North arms and the Hub. There is also ice on Anima Nipissing Lake and the lakes in the park around Smoothwater.

And a bonus photo of kayaks in the Southwest Arm, Lake Temagami.

Break-up Watch: Lake Temagami opening

What a difference in two days. Lots of mid-sized lakes are open. On Lake Temagami large sections are open. The Northeast Arm is well along while the North Arm is still closed.

Break-up Watch: small lakes opening

Lakes Wanapitei and Timiskaming are mostly open. Small lakes in Temagami are either open or on their way. On Lake Temagami sections of the Southwest Arm are open and small areas are opening up along shores and in bays.
