After a week of cloud cover, I desperately reached back two days and
pulled out this false-colour image for a peak beneath those clouds.
When reading these images, the darkest areas
may be open water. But thin ice with no snow cover
will appear dark and delude us into thinking it is ice free.
As usual with late freeze-up, the deepest lakes are the last to go
and still open: Temagami, Timiskaming, Kipawa (far right) and
Wanapitei (barely visible far left). Rabbit Lake suggests one arm
may be open. Lake Nipissing (bottom) is freezing over.
On Lake Temagami, the Northeast and Southwest
arms are freezing.
