Ice thins

Temagami is largely obscured by cloud in this heat-sensitive image, but it is the first without full cover in a week.

The rivers are open, but many lakes, light blue, still have ice that is strong enough to walk on. The darker ones with more progressed melts have been thinning quickly this week.

The temperature hit 16 C during the day, and dropped only to 3 C overnight. It has been above freezing since dipping overnight on April 15 to 2 C. The thermometer has been progressively rising from a low of 13 C on April 5.

Black open water or thin, clear ice
Dull/ dark blue thin ice
Bright turquoise thick ice, or snow on unforested land  (e.g. clearcuts, farmland)
