Freeze-up spreads

The shallow lakes and shallow sections of large lakes have frozen over.

Freeze-up began over 11 days ago in the smallest lakes. Though close on occasion, the temperature has not been above freezing since November 15.

With all the cloudy days, this is the first good satellite image – yes, even with the clouds this is still a good image over the others – since the middle of November.

Frozen areas include Temagami Bay around the town, upper Lady Evelyn Lake, Sucker Gut Lake, south Obabika Lake, Makobe Lake, some of Florence Lake, western Lake Nipissing, Bay Lake.

The cloud over Lake Nipissing has taken on an other-worldy appearance.

False colour enhances the view of ice and snow.

       KEY

Black open water or thin, clear ice
Dull/ dark blue thin ice
Bright turquoise thick ice, or snow on unforested land  (e.g. clearcuts, farmland)
