Temperature rise has impact

Thick ice and lots of snow have slowed ice-out this year, but things have quickened in recent days.

Since April 11 daytime temperatures have been above freezing and a few nights did not drop back to freezing.

False colour, like infrared, enhances the view of ice and snow.

       KEY

Black open water or thin, clear ice
Dull/ dark blue thin ice with little or no snow cover
Bright turquoise thick ice, snow-covered ice or snow on unforested land  (e.g. clearcuts, farmland)
