Chick ride A loon chick hitches a ride, maybe to rest, for warmth or to avoid predators (snapping turtles, gulls, crows, birds of prey, and large fish). Though chicks are born with the ability to swim they can spend half of their first week back-riding. You have to be close to see the chick and Jack Goodman has become an expert.
