Photographer: Erik Giles

Northern lights redux

Giles, using a digital Nikon D80, took a 30-second exposure at ISO 1600 with a UV filter at 12:17 a.m., July 21, 2007. Long exposures have the ability to pick up small amounts of colour in the aurora borealis that are not always visible to the human eye, in this case green. The shot looks north up the North Arm of Lake Temagami from Canadian Adventure Camp. Cleminshaw's Island is in the middle. Compare this to a companion photo: December's Photo of the Month.
