December 2007

Photographer: Erik Giles

Northern lights

On a late night vigil, Giles, using a digital Nikon D80, took a one-and-a-half-minute exposure at ISO 1600 with a UV filter. Long exposures have the ability to pick up small amounts of colour in the aurora borealis that are not always visible to the human eye from Temagami, in this case green and red. Looking north up the North Arm of Lake Temagami, 2:15 a.m., July 12, 2007, from Canadian Adventure Camp.
