Satellite image: Temagami ice freeze-up from space, Dec 12, 2005

Infrared reveals

ice-free water

This infrared photo reveals with stunning clarity the remaining open waters.

As Allan Eustis, Temagami islander and formerly with NOAA, explains, "The imagery accurately depicts the temperatures of open water (black), thin ice (greyish), and thick ice (bright turquoise). You can see the thinner ice clearly on the Northeast Arm [of Lake Temagami]."

Thanks to Allan Eustis for the image.
