Satellite photo of ice freeze-up in Temagami, 2007

Freeze-up advances

All, but the deepest, lakes are frozen. And for these deep lakes, many of their bays have iced.

A large veil of cloud obscures most of the upper-centre of the photo.

Lake Temagami's Northeast Arm is iced over near town and near Boatline Bay. Kokoko and nearby bays are closed. Most of the lower end of the Southwest Arm is closed.

Wanapitei and Smoothwater remain wide open. Lady Evelyn is closed, except for a section in the centre of the lower basin. Obabika Lake's southern half is mostly closed.

False colour, like infrared, enhances the view of ice and snow.

       KEY

Black open water or thin, clear ice
Dull/ dark blue thin ice
Bright turquoise thick ice, or snow on unforested land  (e.g. clearcuts, farmland)
