ACTIVE BACKCOUNTRY PARKS
Active parks:
Non-active parks (no permits required, no patrols, no maintenance):
PERMITS Overnight-camping permits are required for each night of camping per person in the active parks for the season. Travel through does not require a permit if not overnight camping. Maximum number of consecutive nights on a backcountry campsite is 16.
SEASON Start: last Friday in April End: last Sunday in October
ETHICS FINES & ENFORCEMENT No camping permit: up to $100 per night per person Common fines issued for: failure to extinguish campfire littering Wardens enforce Ontario laws including, but not limited to: Provincial Parks Act Off-road Vehicles Act Motorized Snow Vehicles Act Criminal Code of Canada Liquor Licence Act Trespass to Property Act Highway Traffic Act Fisheries Act Forest Fire Prevention Act Reporting backcountry crimes Checklist for Information Gathering 1. Date and time 2. Location on a map, or GPS coordinates 3. Vehicle and/or vessel description, including license, model, colour, and anything distinguishing, such as racks 4. Description and number of the people seen 5. Direction of travel 6. Description of crime, including some quantification, such as number of bottles tossed into lake.
