December 25, 2002 Temagami on Christmas Day, Satellites don't get holidays Lake Temagami looks mostly frozen. I am going to guess that the black areas are not open water, but instead "black ice," which at thicknesses up to six centimetres or water covered have the same radiative properties as open water. The haze is high cirrus from the storm that produced 24 centimetres of snowfall over New York state and New England. — Allan Eustis, NOAA |
